Blue Grass Airport Mural Wall
Lexington, Kentucky
Completed: Summer 2005
A 300' long by 30' tall retaining wall for the Blue Grass Airport
was needed as a part of a runway safety zone expansion along historic
Versailles Road in Lexington. Traditional methods of landscaping
could not be used as screening elements because plant material
would attract birds into airspace as jet aircraft are landing.
Working in conjunction with the Airport Administration, Mark Arnold
and Jocelyn Hinshaw developed a concept that would create a "Landscape"
without the traditional elements of landscaping. We developed
a scene that would be painted directly on the wall and then emerge
from the wall into earth forms in front of the wall. The landscape
includes bronze horse sculptures, traditional stone walls and
large earth berms.

EKU Health And Fitness Center
Richmond, Kentucky
Completed: Summer 2004
The site development plan for the new Health and Fitness Center
at Eastern Kentucky University called for an easily accessible
building for students, employees and faculty. We sited the structure
within an existing surface parking lot and along a prominent walkway
that links back to main campus. This provides easy access to the
building both day and night and also provided a ready made parking
for the facility.

Field of Dreams Park
Elizabethtown, Kentucky
Completed: Summer 2006
Field of Dreams Park offers something for everyone. With an indoor
and outdoor Tennis facility, four Baseball Fields catering to
all ages from Tee ball to Babe Ruth League, two fully developed
Football Fields complete with bleachers and Concession and six
new Soccer Fields within a fully developed Soccer complex, this
is a park designed for activity. The heart of the park is the
Billy Branch Creek. The naturalized riparian area makes an excellent
buffer to the adjoining neighborhoods and an excellent outdoor
classroom. The loop trail takes full advantage of this shady woodland
edge and follows the creek along the entire property line. Outdoor
classroom areas and displays offer several opportunities to learn
about this unique environment. Further the creek edge offers and
excellent opportunity to develop a series of naturalized filtration
and sediment ponds which will serve to clean the run-off from
the sports fields.

Greensburg Town Square
Greensburg, Kentucky
Completed: Winter 2004
The sshed product is the real proof of a good plan. Mark Arnold
worked closely with the City of Greensburg to help them define
their goals and objectives for the town square. The history was
already there, the wonderful old buildings in place, and the commitment
of the community was strong. The Master Plan just brought these
elements together by providing a continuity that had been missing
and proving once again that the best solutions are the simple
ones.

Downtown Master Plan
Horse Cave, Kentucky
The Master Plan for Horse Cave has been accomplished as a part
of the TEA-21 Program and outlines many projects for the downtown.
The most unique aspect of the master plan is the integration of
community resources. We mapped the streets of Horse Cave as well
as the Hidden River Cave flowing below the streets and then brought
the two systems together at the surface to serve as a patterned
walkway that will lead visitors through the community. The cave
system connects many of the community resources and provides a
common pedestrian linkage. The Cave Trail provides a fantastic
educational experience on Main Street, provides a neat Outdoor
Trail with Environmental Educational Opportunities behind the
Cave Museum, and creates a fabulous outdoor performance area in
a sinkhole behind the Horse Cave Theater.

Maysville KCTCS Master Plan
Maysville, Kentucky
Completed: Summer 2005
Ten years ago, Mark C. Arnold helped develop a long range master
plan for the Maysville Community College. Some of the projects
moved forward while others went unrealized. As the community colleges
have changed and traditional students have become replaced with
more non traditional students, and programs have emerged that
were not even considered a decade ago, the road map of the 1990s
needed to be updated. The Master Plan, completed in 2005, reflects
a more open style campus, which emphasized a series of new buildings
which would be constructed around the existing central courtyard.

Murray State University Residential Master Plan
Murray, Kentucky
Mark Arnold and Jocelyn Hinshaw are currently working with Murray
State University developing a Master Plan for the residential
campus. The plan involves review of the existing facilities and
developing a variety of prototypical housing types in order to
enhance the neighborhood feel of the existing residential campus.
We are taking a close look at trends in campus housing and looking
for ways to integrate traditional dormitories, Junior and Senior
level apartments with a greater degree of interior amenities,
and a townhouse style development to enhance the sense of neighborhood
as well as to transition the scale of the larger buildings into
the surrounding community.

included design for play structures, a custom designed outdoor
pavilion, walking trails, basketball courts, soccer fields, a
sledding hill, bikeway, and off street accessible parking. All

Pikeville City Park
Pikeville, Kentucky
The design for a covered walkway in Downtown Pikeville goes way
beyond just getting you from one place to another. Engraved within
a special swirl of pavement as you move along the walk, is a beautiful
song written by the famous Appalachian song writer, Jean Ritchie.
The song entitled "The Flowers Of Joy" speaks of a sorrowful past
and bright and joyful tomorrow. The song begins at a gushing fountain
emerging directly from the pavement and the walkway pattern speaks
to the rhythms of 4 / 4 time. We envisioned children running along
the path singing out the words of the song.
